Much of Cortland Regional Medical Center's expansion efforts have focused on providing area families with more, and easily accessible services along the full continuum of care: from acute care to outpatient care to long term care to home care. Thanks to Home Health Services, residents also have access to durable medical equipment and supplies. Located at 160 Homer Avenue, just one block from the main CRMC campus, Home Health Services is the only local source for home medical equipment needs.
One of Home Health Service's most popular services is oxygen home delivery and pickup. "We strive to make delivery and pickup exceptionally easy for our customers," said Eline Haukenes, Vice President for CMH Services Inc., which oversees Home Health Services.
In addition, Home Health Services provides durable medical equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, bathroom equipment. and home safety items. Its qualified staff of six, with over 20 years of experience, will also work with physicians or other clinical staff to fit individuals who are in need of post-surgical items like cast shoes, splints, knee braces, and other rehabilitation products.
Home Health Services carries equipment for individuals who are in need of more substantial items that allow for mobility, such as lift chairs and power chairs. Whether it's a weekend trip, a visiting guest, or even a summer vacation, anyone can rent from Home Health services' fleet of scooters. The staff provides service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with the education about using their state-of-the-art equipment and in-home training and follow-up evaluations as needed.
Home Health Services also provides equipment and education for patients with sleep apnea, a disorder of interrupted breathing during sleep, which affects over 10 million Americans. For example, they provide at-home CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), Bi-PAP (Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure), and APAP (Auto-Titrating Positive Airway Pressure) products as well as a variety of home treatments, training programs, humidifiers, masks, nasal pillows, and other products that are tailored to fit the individual for the best treatment possible.
Many of the product lines offered do not require a doctor's referral and the staff can usually work directly through an individual's insurance, as they accept most major insurance plans as well as Medicare and Medicaid. With over 400 deliveries a month, Home Health Services delivery employees are proud to service clients not just in Cortland County but communities such as Tully, Moravia, Dryden, Groton, Ithaca, and even as far as Norwich. Their dedication to excellent, personalized service is summed up by Haukenes: "If we don't have it, we'll help you get it."
"Taking care of the whole person is at the core of our approach." Haukenes observed. "This is why Home Health Services is proud to present another service unique to this community." The Confident Woman Boutique, located on Euclid Avenue in Cortland, offers women post-mastectomy products including prosthetics, camisoles, caps, and lotions. "We provide a quiet, private setting with three certified, respectful fitters," noted Haukenes. "We take the time and care to get what fits patients best, and what we don't have, we special order. We provide ourselves in being able to offer the community these vital products in a professional, convenient and personal fashion."
